Thread: SSDI question

    Question SSDI question

I am receiving SSDI for 1 year and 3 months. My question is I live in a rural area and specific health care is limited. I need a specialist to really help me in dealing. My SSDI award letter stated that I probably will get a review in 7 years (rather than the every 1 year or 5 years) because the disability probably won’t go away. Now, since I can’t get treatment based on living in a rural area, will SSDI when the review without me going to a doctor continue or what will happen? Will they discontinue me, what will happen, do hire lawyers again if they stop and have to find treatment out of state I can’t afford?

    Trisha,
If you disability is not expected to change and there are no treatment options that could potentially allow you to return to work, it is unlike.y the SSA would stop your benefits, but I would not completely stop seeing a doctor. At the very least I would see someone one time per year and get evidence in your medical file that your condition remains the same. Yes, if the SSA stops your benefit you can always hire a disability lawyer and fight the denial.
